Perched beneath the foothills of several soaring mountains, the town of Minakami-machi provides a picturesque stepping stone from which to explore the dramatic surrounding scenery.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Minakami-machi: Kawaba-mura (Kojyu Hotspring & Tsuchida Brewery) and Katashina-mura (Ozegahara & Snowpal Oguna Hotaka). Spend the 12th (Fri) exploring nature at Oze National Park. On the 13th (Sat), spend a day of thorough relaxation at some of the top local onsens. Often referred to as the "Belly Button of Japan," the city of Shibukawa celebrates its status as the country's geographical center by hosting the Heso Matsuri, or Belly Button Festival.
