Perched beneath the foothills of several soaring mountains, the town of Minakami-machi provides a picturesque stepping stone from which to explore the dramatic surrounding scenery.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Minakami-machi: Katashina-mura (Ozegahara & Snow Park Oze Tokura), Numata (Fukiwarenotaki Fall, Tenkeiji, & more) and Kawaba-mura (Kojyu Hotspring, Wine Tours & Tastings, & more). On the 6th (Sat), spend a day of thorough relaxation at some of the top local onsens. Spend the 7th (Sun) exploring nature at Oze National Park. Famous for its Daruma dolls, Takasaki serves as a great stopover town during a trip through Japan.
Get a sense of the local culture at Tomioka Silk Mill and Haruna Shrine. Get out of town with these interesting Takasaki side-trips: Shibukawa (Tanashitafudo Waterfall, Ikaho Shrine 伊香保神社, & more), Shinto Winery (in Shinto-mura) and Gunma Safari Park (in Tomioka). Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Haruna, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mt.
