Kerikeri, the largest town in Northland New Zealand, is a popular tourist destination about three hours drive north of Auckland, and 80 km north of the northern region's largest city, Whangarei. Waitangi Treaty Grounds and The Stone Store & Kemp House - Kerikeri Mission Station will appeal to history buffs. Escape the urban bustle at Scuba & Snorkeling and Paihia Harbour. Russell, formerly known as Kororāreka, was the first permanent European settlement and sea port in New Zealand. Get some historical perspective at Pompallier Mission and Printery and Christ Church. Get outdoors at Dolphin & Whale Watching and Urupukapuka Island. Get out of town with these interesting Russell side-trips: Paihia (Paihia Bookshop, St Paul's Anglican Church, &more) and Ruapekapeka Pa Track (in Kawakawa).
