Osborne House, East Cowes

Glamour, grace, and elegance are the words that spring to mind in relation to Osborne House, a sprawling Victorian mansion set against the backdrop of the Isle of Wight’s lush pastureland. Once a royal retreat, the building was designed in the style of an Italian Renaissance palace by Prince Albert himself. It remains well-known for being the place where Queen Victoria died in 1901. The interior boasts a decor equally as ornate as the exterior, replete with sumptuous galleries and rooms. Osborne House is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, East Cowes Edition.

  • What a wonderful house. It had an amazing homely feel, you could really picture Queen Victoria and her family running around here. I thought their private beach was beautiful and I really wished that I'd taken my swimming things with me, to join the others swimming in the sea. I also loved the Swiss 'play house' too. What an amazing childhood those children must have had, spending their holidays there. Everyone visiting the Isle of Wight should definitely visit here.
  • A wonderful place to visit. The house itself is a treasure of beautiful antique items, filled with loads of presents from Albert to Queen Victoria... if you watched the tv series you will specially enjoy looking at all the rooms! The gardens are just exquisite, colourful flowerbeds with lashes lawns and old trees (some of them planted by Victoria and Albert)! If you go to the Isle of Wight, this is one of the places worthwhile visiting. TIP: Purchase your tickets before online, then you don't need to queue up, at busy time!
