The summit of Turtle Hill rises to about. It is an outcrop of chert, which is part of the heterogeneous assemblage known as the Franciscan Formation, or Franciscan Assemblage, the primary geologic feature on which the city of San Francisco is founded, here covered with a thin layer of sand. It provides one of the last remaining habitats within the city for a number of native plants, including the endangered Franciscan wallflower and dune tansy, and also bush lupin, beach strawberry, bush monkey flower, and coyote bush. The hill is crowned with Monterey cypress trees.
Grand View Park Reviews
We arrived on a cloudy, cold, windy day...and yet we loved the view. You gave out toward the ocean and can see all over the city and bay. Just spectacular. If you go to see the 16th Ave. Tiled stairwa... more »
Climb up the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps and at the top you will find Grand View Park. Incredible panoramic views of the city! more »
This place wasn’t on my list, I happened to discover it via the tiled steps and mosaic steps before that. The best bird eye view the Pacific Ocean and houses by the side as well as panaromic view of the citywide. This was where I got my first sneak peak of the Golden Gate Bridge. The park is great for view and exercise as it’s elevated and has tons of stairs to climb from the road.
This is a fantastic park on a hill top with full 360 degree view of the City and Bay Area. Night time view is also spectacular. Almost always very windy at top so bring a jacket as it can get pretty chilly anytime of the year. Must be able to climb a lot of stairs and most will need to stop to catch your breath and muscle burn on the way up.
